The fashion industry, with its glamorous players, makes a popular movie subject. "Prêt-à-Porter" (Ready to Wear) 1994. Robert Altman’s comic take on the Parisian fashion industry brings out the lighter side in a dazzling number of Hollywood stars. While renowned for its celebrity cameo appearances and starring roles by an ensemble that includes Julia Roberts, Rupert Everett, Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni, the nude catwalk at the end of the film is one of the best-known sequences.

But the famed designer is obviously not going out quietly, and the film is full of footage from his swan song: an opulent couture runway show and celebrity bash.

"Unzipped" (1995). One of the best fashion films for fans of the supermodel era, this tribute to the models and times of the 1990's portrays the larger-than-life personality of fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi. The movie features some of the world’s best known supermodels, including Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista.

"Qui êtes-vous, Polly Maggoo?" (Who Are You, Polly Maggoo?) (1966). William Klein’s fashion Dockumentary describes the adventures and perils of a 20 year-old model and tries to dive beneath the surface of the glitzy fashion industry to see whether it is as superficial as it initially appears.

"Fashions of 1934" (1934). A lighthearted portrayal of the Parisian fashion, this musical comedy stars William Powell and Bette Davis as entrepreneurs who steal and copy the latest Parisian designs so they can sell cheap copies to their U.S. clients.

"Coco avant Chanel" (2009). Audrey Tatou portrays Coco Chanel in this film that describes Chanel’s rise to fame from her humble beginnings as a singer and performer in a provincial bar.

"Dior And I" (2015). The star of this documentary, designer Raf Simons, recently left the house of Dior, where he reigned as head designer for almost four years. Though Simons conceived of every collection the house presented, there’s a team of insanely talented designers at the Dior atelier who help bring those visions to life so beautifully it might make you feel a little emotional when you see them float down the runway.

"Yves Saint Laurent" (2014). Famous fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent was the subject of two biopics in 2014, Yves Saint Laurent and Saint Laurent. Both films chronicled the career of the icon, who died in 2008, as he rose from the house of Dior to start his own massively successful line and began a passionate, long-lasting relationship with his partner Pierre Bergé. Laurent was just 21 when he took over as head designer of the House of Dior in 1957. The Yves Saint Laurent movie was the only one of the two to be supported by Bergé, but both have their moments of beauty and inspiration.

"Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf's" (2013). Bergdorf Goodman is a New York institution. The grande dame of department stores has a legendary history, and this adorable documentary takes you through its glamorous history via the perspective of its employees and the designers and celebrities who love it. If you’ve been inside those hallowed halls, you know that Bergdorf Goodman is sheer magic. Even the Olsen twins make an appearance in this film, but with her dry wit and snappy humor, Bergdorf’s personal shopper Betty Halbreich is the standout star.
"Mademoiselle C" (2013). Legendary editor Carine Roitfeld is the center of this documentary, which follows her as she goes off on her own to create CR Fashion Book. Also featured in Carine’s documentary? Alexander Wang, Tom Ford, Kate Moss and way, way more of fashion’s brightest stars.
